Layers, layers, layers. Layers in life reflected within the layers of painting. Awareness of America’s dependence on cars and my practice of changing my own oil led to my selection of materials during University studies to include car nourishments and excrements. For me, the latest petrol crisis only emphasizes these as appropriate mediums with which to express my naturally American perspective. Materials which I use are used motor oil with plaster as a drying agent, new copper seal, new transmission fluid, and other car fluids/materials in a large portion of my paintings. Car related supplies are not the only ones I use. I continue to hold reverence for the traditional methods and materials of earlier masters.
I refer to my work as '

rocess' painting, based largely on my mentality during the creation of each piece. Each layer feels like a chapter in a novel. I walk away and come back when I know the next chapter. The titles given to each piece are not intended to direct interpretation and typically indicate the image source only. My favored artists include Cezanne, DeKooning, Kandinsky, and Frida.
